Snow Simulation - more


Finally a simulation with higher resolution. We extended our framework with OpenVDB, an optimized adaptive grid that scales with the movement of the particles. Moreover we can now import solid collision objects. To visualize the simulation data, it is being exported as point data in Houdinis *.geo file format.
To achieve (Disney-like) high-res results we now have to simulate with much more particles and a finer background grid.
The simulation in our video has about 20 000 particles and an initial grid-size of 60x60x60.

I Like

I like Today I liked a lot on facebook. Basically everything. I was interested in how facebook would handle this amount of likes and how that would affect my frontpage. Turned out I mainly annoyed my friends, because their tickers, notifiers and frontpages were overflowing with my posts. Of course I did not like manually, but used python with mechanize to do the work.

I finally had time to do something creative again. For this shot I used the new Houdini cloud tool, rendered out some stills, and composed and animated them in After Effects

A-Star Pathfinding

For an exercise I programmed the A Star Pathfinding with a nice little Qt gui. If you want to try it out, you can download my code AStar_Pathfinding.7z and compile it yourself ;)
You can choose to allow diagonal movement and decide whether to use a heuristics. In this case it is simply a distance measure to the target that additionally adds a weight. I can also recommend the the A Star Pathfinding for Beginners page for everyone who is interested.

Cloud Simulation 2

CloudSim
With PhD student D. Körner I integrated the cloud simulation into his C++ simulation framework which integrates a lot of Houdini functionalities. Therefore I set up some Houdini visualization tools to have a comfortable way to check and debug the simulation.
To further improve the realism and controllability of the simulation I am about to implement the functionality to load meteorological atmospheric measurements.

CLOUD SIMULATION:

I implemented the "Stam Fluid" paper in Java for my Bachelor Thesis and extended it with thermodynamic fields and equations to simulate cloud dynamics.
This version is not final yet, there are still some problems to be solved, mainly concerning boundary conditions and runtime optimization.
